Memphis National Cemetery, 3568 Townes Ave., is a VA national cemetery. Visitors may come daily from 8 a.m. to sunset, and the cemetery office, which closes on most federal holidays, stays open on Memorial Day and Veterans Day (VA). Its flower rules:

  • Natural cut flowers may be placed on graves at any time.
  • Artificial flowers and potted plants are allowed only for limited periods around holidays, when they will not get in the way of mowing.
  • Statues, vigil lights and breakable objects are not permitted.

We found no 2027 Memorial Day ceremony announced by the cemetery, the city or a veterans group by Oct. 18. Organizers can send us the time and place and we will list it.

Trash pickup

There is no City of Memphis collection on Memorial Day. For 2026, the city’s notice said:

  • Monday and Tuesday customers rolled carts out Tuesday.
  • Wednesday through Friday customers kept their regular day.
  • Team Waste customers ran one day late all week: Monday on Tuesday, Tuesday on Wednesday, through Friday on Saturday.
  • Excess trash and yard waste pickup was limited during the holiday week.
  • Carts at the curb by 7 a.m.; the Memphis Curbside Collection app has updates.

Pools and splash pads

City splash pads opened May 23 in 2026, the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, and run 8 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. in early summer. The city’s outdoor pools opened later, on June 9.
