Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 6, 2027. It closes out summer in Memphis: City of Memphis splash pads ran through Labor Day in 2026, and the Children’s Museum’s outdoor splash park runs Memorial Day to Labor Day. City offices and libraries close for the holiday, and trash pickup shifts for Monday and Tuesday customers. The week before, the city celebrates 901 Day. 901 Day
Memphis marks 901 Day, named for the city’s area code, around Sept. 1. In 2026 the city built a 901 Weekend around it, starting with a kickoff at South Main’s Trolley Night and ending with 901 on Beale on Sunday, Aug. 30: stages along Beale Street and Handy Park with live music, film, fashion, dance, gospel, youth arts and a family art zone (city announcement; Downtown Memphis Commission). In 2027, Sept. 1 falls on a Wednesday, five days before Labor Day. The 2027 plans had not been announced when we checked.

Trash pickup
There is no City of Memphis collection on Labor Day. For 2026, the city’s notice said:
- Monday and Tuesday customers rolled carts out on Tuesday.
- Wednesday through Friday customers kept their regular day.
- Team Waste customers had no pickup on Labor Day and ran one day late.
- Excess trash and yard waste pickup was limited during the holiday week.
- Carts at the curb by 7 a.m.
