Southbound I-55 closes overnight Sunday, Oct. 18, and southbound SR-14 shuts Wednesday, Oct. 21, for the Exit 7 bridge. Every closure date, time and backup night.

Southbound Interstate 55 in Memphis closes overnight tonight, Sunday, Oct. 18, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Crews are pouring concrete for the new I-55 Exit 7 ramp bridge, which crosses over the interstate.

It is one of a run of night closures on I-55 and state Route 14 that lasts until Wednesday, Nov. 4. The schedule comes from the City of Memphis notice issued Oct. 12.

Tonight’s closure is a directional one, with detours posted. The left lane of northbound I-55 will also close for the pour. Friday, Oct. 23, is the backup date.

The Tuesday, Oct. 20, ramp closure is the only one in daytime hours. The rest run overnight.

The notice says the detours on SR-14 and Ramp E are there so concrete trucks can reach the bridge deck. It does not publish the detour routes. Follow the posted signs.

What it means for you

  • Driving I-55 at night through Nov. 4? Expect rolling roadblocks or a closed lane any night between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Use Ramp E from northbound SR-14? It closes Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and again overnight Friday, Oct. 23.
  • The biggest closure is Wednesday night. All of southbound SR-14 shuts from 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, until 6 a.m. Thursday.
  • Check again before a late trip. “All work is weather-dependent and subject to change,” the city said. A rained-out night moves to the backup date in the table.
